Bob McKenzie - Reports out of Tampa Bay are indicating that Steven Stamkos is close to coming to terms on a contract extension that would see him remain in a Lightning uniform until 2018. The extension is likely in the 15 million dollar range over two years. More details will be released later this week on the potential deal.
Stamkos made this quote on Sunday morning at practice about the potential extension. "I'm happy in Tampa. We have a great group of guys here and we've got a chance to do great things. I'm looking forward to getting a deal done so i can remain here and hopefully bring another cup home to this great city"

Sources inside the Flyers organization claim that the Flyers are about to finalize a deal sending defenseman Evgeni Medvedev to the Bruins, the same way they sent fellow countryman Ivan Provorov earlier this pre-season.
After some daring moves on the trade market in recent weeks by new GM Björn Thelin, the Flyers had found themselves in a challenging salary cap situation. This forced them to offload recent acquisitions Joffrey Lupul and Roman Polak, as well as reliable defenseman Nick Schultz and winger Michael Raffl. With Medvedev also on his way out, it seems that the Flyers' salary cap situation will finally be brought back under control.
However, these moves should be considered only a temporary remedy - starting next season the new contracts of Voracek and Couturier will be counted against the Flyers salary cap. Therefore, look for the Flyers to make additional moves in order to make room for these new contracts, as well as for extensions of contracts for the Schenn brothers.

Sources from within the Florida Panther's organization say that Sunrise Sports and Entertainment, the ownership group of the Panthers, is looking to sell the team and that an ownership group in Hartford, Connecticut heading by local developer Lawrence Gottesdiener is among the interested parties.
When asked for comment iNHL Commissioner Dax Kopp replied "I have heard nothing about this, of course this is just a rumor. The club is in perfectly fine financial shape and I don't think Vincent Viola is even entertaining the idea of selling the team."

The Washington Capitals officially placed Braden Holtby on IR, and have recalled veteran goaltender Dan Ellis from their AHL affiliate in Hershey. Look for Ellis to back up starter Philipp Grubauer, however he may get the call in Edmonton in the second game of a back-to-back out west. Furthermore, it is believed that the Capitals will be monitoring the success of both Grubauer and Ellis, and have put out feelers around the league to improve the position while Holtby is on the mend.

In addition to the huge Steven Stamkos deal with Tampa, I am hearing significant RFAs from the Eastern Conference are on the verge of signing new deals.
Contrast with broken-down negotiations between Sergei Kalinin and Dennis Everberg with the Blackhawks, Patrick Weircioch and Ottawa, Dmitry Orlov and the Capitals, and Petr Mrazek in Detroit. Will be interesting to see whether these teams capitulate to their free agents or perhaps make a move to salvage assets.

Word is that Sam Reinhart is still drawing interest despite being moved to Boston. Bruins not actively looking to move him, but apparently willing to listen.

Following up on the rumors from last week, it seems like the Bruins have a deal in place for the recently acquired Sam Reinhart. Bruins GM Pepsi Cola apparently told Reinhart to take his time packing up his things in Buffalo and that there is no rush to report to Boston. This may not be anything more than a last place team taking care of a young player - there's no confirmation from the Boston front office - but my money is on a trade.

Rumor out of Tampa
It was announced late last month that GM J. Jackson was actively shopping Lightning starter Ben Bishop after a less than stellar start. Rumors are that they are making way for a younger and potentially more talented goalie in Andrei Vasilevskiy. While it seems that the trade rumors have cooled down lately, Bishop seems to have found his game again and could garner more looks from teams around the iNHL looking for his services. Tampa GM J. Jackson was quoted late Thursday night " Bishop is a great kid and he's starting to play at an elite level again. We're not actively looking to trade him but if someone came along offering a top 3/4 dman it's something myself and the rest of the organization would strongly have to look at as improving our back end is our number one goal right now"

I'm hearing that with the Rangers wrapping up contracts talks with some of the younger talent that there might be a changing of the guard at MSG. Some vets are on the hot seat and could be moved in an effort to create a younger core in the Big Apple.
My guess is that the King is untouchable but other available names may surprise fans.

Hearing that during initial trade talks for Ryan Johansen and Jack Johnson, the Blue Jackets received offers from no less than 6 teams. Picks, prospects, and proven stars are all being considered fair game, one source tells me.

Reid Boucher called up by the New Jersey Devils, expected to fill in the 3rd-line RW spot as head coach John Hynes shuffles his whole line-up. Looks like Jack Skille will be waived to make room for Boucher.

Hearing the same reports as LeBrun - except that I am told it is a done deal. But also hearing iBruins could be involved in other major trade discussions. Expect multiple blockbusters out of iBoston at or before the draft.

Industry assumption is that @sanjosesharks are determined to find their goalie of the future this off-season.
Per source, names like Carter Hart, Filip Gustavsson and Adam Brizgala have been discussed internally, but they are far from the only ones being targeted.

Leafs and Bernier agree a long term deal
Jonathon Bernier has signed a four year extension to his contract which was due to run out in the summer of 2017. He is rumoured to be earning an average of $6M per year throughout the deal. Sources inside the Leafs say this shows faith in his ability to be the #1 guy while the team grows and should provide some stability.
