Tyler Myers had one of his best seasons in 2015-16 for the iJets and iHawks and an average one for the iRangers in 2016-17 so I decided to do a study of whether or not he does better against Western Conference teams.
The 2016-17 results:
as NYR | Games | Goals | Assists | PPG | +/- | TkA | GvA | GR | EASTERN CONFERENCE | 54 | 5 | 13 | .33 | -8 | 31 | 31 | 62.9 | WESTERN CONFERENCE | 28
| 2 | 10 | .43 | +11 | 17 | 15 | 66.2 |
Since there seemed there might be something to it, I then studied the 2015-16 season where he played in the West. What I found however was that it was pretty much a wash except for one thing - when I broke it down by division, he clearly was better against the Pacific (his GR against that division also was the highest in 2016-17 at 69.1).
The 2015-16 results:
as Jet/Hawk | Games | Goals | Assists | PPG | +/-* | TkA | GvA | GR | ATLANTIC | 15 | 1 | 5 | .40 | +2 | 10 | 5 | 74.8 | METRO | 15 | 0 | 9 | .60 | +2 | 14 | 8 | 73.0 | CENTRAL | 30 | 2 | 11 | .43 | -7 | 20 | 12 | 69.6 | PACIFIC | 16 | 3 | 9 | .75 | +5 | 20 | 9 | 77.6 |
* Numbers just with Chicago in order are -2, 0, 0, +8
I'm not sure much could be read into any of this except that Myers had a better season in 2015-16 but I did the work so here it is. However, I did notice before that a couple other defensemen that passed through my team - Ehrhoff and Jamie McBain - also posted higher than expected GRs with LA last season. Ehrhoff had a 78 GR that put him among the top 33 defensemen in the league and McBain had a serviceable 64 GR, the same GR he has now playing for my AHL team.
