THE TAMPA TRIBUNE September 22, 2018
After missing the playoffs last season the Tampa Bay Lightning have decided to part ways with their current GM and hire Bill Long to take over. The question being asked is why did the team wait until the eve of the preseason to make the move? We have just discovered video from TMZ Sports that shows the fired GM at a strip club in Ybor City around 3 AM last night. The video shows what appears to be an altercation over “payment for services rendered.”
The Tampa Bay Lightning have released the following statement: “We are disappointed in the actions of one of our employees last night. The Tampa Bay Lightning neither condone nor tolerate the actions by this individual. Effective immediately, he is no longer with the team and we are announcing Bill Long as the new General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning. We believe Mr. Long can get us back into the playoffs and lead this team to the Stanley Cup.”
A quick search shows that the new General Manager Bill Long was the GM of the Belfast Giants of the Elite Ice Hockey League for one week this season. Prior General Managing experience dates back to the early 1990’s with NHLPA 93 and NHL 94 where he was the self-proclaimed King of Fights and One Timers. It looks like Mr. Long’s teams in the past have been built on toughness and speed which could be the direction the Tampa Bay Lightning go moving forward.
