Rumors out of the Motor City were fast and furious prior to the ultimate signing of Finnish phenom in Winnipeg. Fans were left disappointed and wondering about the direction of the Red Wings franchise after GM M.W. Smith missed out on the talented center. One anonymous fan even went so far as to make unfavorable comparisons to a former GM, "I can't see what's changed since somebody else was running things. We're still missing out on big free agents and preaching patience. Sounds a lot like more Hollandisms after striking out on Zach Parise and Ryan Suter a while back. Yeah, another player goes to some frozen tundra instead of signing with an Original Six team. It's kinda depressing, actually."
Ouch. Smith has expressed confidence in the current roster on more than one occasion, and has stated that nothing has changed regarding a rebuild. We shall see.
McKenzie out.

News out of Ottawa is that talks have broken down between Senators management and the representatives for Eric Comrie. Comrie and Peressini are both putting up all-star calibre numbers for the Senators early in the season, and it seems that Comrie's representatives are happily making use of that leverage in contract renewal discussions. Stay tuned.

Detroit, MI:
Hearing some speculation that the coaches seat is getting rather hot in Detroit these days. Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill has been given a long leash in the past, and although the team is in an official rebuild mode, Wings GM M.W. Smith is said to be losing patience with the on-ice results. Coach Blashill was recently given a contract extension, but Wings management wants to see better results, more of an effort by the players on the ice, and an increase in player development. To this point, word is that none of these things have been happening and the team as a whole has been wildly inconsistent. It's probably too early for a change behind the bench in Detroit, but stay tuned...especially if results don't change.

News out of Ottawa: former 5th round draft pick of the Senators is coming back into the fold. The Ottawa Senators have made a deal to acquire Christian Jaros from the Calgary Flames. Christian Jaros was an important part of the deal with Dallas a few seasons ago that brought Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn to Ottawa.

GM Beans taking a hard look at Nikita Kucherov, I imagine. Would make a lot of sense following Coach Vorobyov's decision to implement a Russian-only language policy at all team events.

Rumors started going around Columbus as soon as the lineups for the game at Edmonton were published. Where was ever-present, fan favorite Kevin Fiala? No injuries were reported either so the press box was were he was sighted. With the proximity of the trade deadline, this of course set of a flurry of rumors as to where the winger, who had 50 points last season but has not been producing this season, would be heading. After the game GM Leaf answered several questions on the matter. He said: "Nothing to report here. The coaching staff made a decision based on performances and Joel (Farabee) has been very good in the AHL for us and the staff felt he has earned a chance to show himself in the NHL too". When asked if there are any chances of Fiala being moved at the deadline he had this to say: "Kevin is a important piece of our franchise going forward, both on and off the ice. He is not going anywhere".
GM Leaf could not have been clearer on the matter and did not drop any hint of a possible trade. Given the level of production from Fiala this season, it was definitely the right call to sit him out. If he's not back in the lineup when the team returns to home ice on Feb 12th against the Devils, then you have to think there most certainly is something else happening. Remains to be seen if this is just GM Leaf keeping his cards close to him, or just simply a coaching decision based on performances in the rink.

Rumours continue to swirl in Calgary that GM Joe MacDonald has reached a deal to send star center Tyler Seguin out of town after the teams' iNHL playoff run has concluded.
Sources close to the team indicate a deal was reached with another Western Conference team on a multi-player deal on Thursday.
When asked about the rumours at his club's pre-playoff news conference at the Scotiabank Saddledome, an obviously perturbed MacDonald refused comment, calling the rumours ridiculous.
"We are here trying to bring a championship to Calgary and you ask me to comment on stupid trade rumors", said the GM. "Tyler Seguin is a Calgary Flame today, and that's all that matters. Our practice is not comment on trade rumours at any time, but especially not heading into a playoff series. They were probably started by some fake twitter account anyway."
Despite MacDonald's denials, the source also indicated that several other veterans were also being shopped, including winger Evander Kane, Tomas Tatar and Jimmy Vesey."
For SportsCentre, I'm Bob McKenzie.

It appears the New Jersey Devils have given up on keeping a targeted player and have broken off negotiations with both expansion teams, one source close to the team citing "prices way too high for his current and future playing time with the organization". Devils are now exploring the idea of trading away the player before the draft, just so "if we can't get what we want, neither can that Robott guy".
Update : In uncharacteristically quick manner, The New Jersey Devils have agreed to a deal with an unnamed team, to be confirmed after the playoffs. "This time", commented our source, "it wasn't about getting the maximum return, but about fucking up one particular, uncooperative GM's plans."

Sat down with iBruins' Media Director Sarah Spicer today to discuss the team and status of GM Beans (dead?).
Apparently, the team's early success is "meaningless" to the GM, who has been largely silent since his team squandered a 3-0 series lead against the eventual iCup champion iLeafs in the playoffs last season.
Despite a strong start to the season that has the iBruins in contention for an iCup after winning the Atlantic last season, GM Beans remains committed to trading every player responsible for "the biggest choke in the history of iSports." With the exception of Kailer Yamamoto, the GM sees the current group as "only interested in the regular season" and "[Beans] was not surprised the two players taken in the expansion draft arguably had the least to do with the outcome against iToronto."
When might the GM reappear in iPublic? "[Beans] does not want to be seen anywhere near the current team. He says the stench of failure surrounding the group is too much to handle."

News out of Seattle: 'I'm hearing that the Sea Lions have extended the stays of Bellerive and McKeown for another 2 and 3 years respectively. Contract details are still pending, but getting McKeown re-signed surely must have been a priority considering the year he's had. Despite injury struggles continuing to assail him, he's put up career numbers on a struggling team. Bellerive has been somewhat less impressive.'

It doesn't seem likely that any sort of deal involving star winger Jesse Puljujarvi will be happening anytime time soon. There have been numerous teams rumoured to have expressed interest in him but negotiations have fallen apart every time.
