Boston, Mass. - March 4, 2016
Thank you all for coming on such short notice. We don't want to keep you from your weekend plans so we'll keep this brief. There are a few things we wanted to discuss, namely:
1) Signing of Eric Staal and other additions. We made a big offer for Eric, feeling that he's an immediate addition to our top-6 and a proven winner. He had a spectacular season last year and we're thrilled to have him on board. We think he's likely to line up at LW beside Granlund and Etem.
We are also proud to introduce Ryan O'Reilly, Brandon Saad, Jacob Silfverberg, Mikael Granlund, Shawn Matthias, Brian Campbell, and Madison Bowey to our organization. We believe all of these players represent significant pieces of our future and present success.
2) 2016-17 Starting Lineup. With the signing of Staal, it looks like our roster is complete for the start of the 2016-17 season and we do not anticipate any additional significant transactions prior to the start of the season. Barring the unforeseen, our opening night lineup will be the following:
Saad | ROR | Silfverberg |
Staal | Granlund | Etem |
Wennberg | Zacha | Jenner |
Matthias | Fiala | Namestnikov |
Extra Forward: Jordan Weal
Theodore | Kulikov |
Provorov | Honka |
Zboril | Campbell |
7th D: Madison Bowey
Jones |
Ortio/Nilsson |
3) Captaincy Decisions. The Boston Bruins will not have a full time captain for 2016-17. Instead, the team will implement a rotation system and name a captain prior to the 2017-18 season or the 2016-17 playoffs (should the iBruins qualify). For the upcoming season, Ryan O'Reilly, Dmitry Kulikov, Alexander Wennberg, and Boone Jenner will share the captaincy and rotate as alternate captains.
4) Trade Block. At this point in time the iBruins are not looking to make any significant transactions. We will review all offers received on a case-by-case basis but are not actively looking for specific upgrades.
5) Season Expectations. Our goal is to make the playoffs this season. Anything less will be considered a failure. We expect to be in a race with Montreal and Hartford for the last playoff spot in the Atlantic/East.
