December 19th 2016 is a date that iAvalanche fans will look back on for years to come with very fond memories.
Today is the day that the Colorado Avalanche officially completed the blockbuster deal that brought the team Elite winger Mikkel Boedker and young defensive minded Joonas Komulainen.
The Full trade details are here
The Colorado Avalanche Sends the Arizona Cyotes
C. Soderberg
G. Olhaver
M. Grigorenko
K. Lemaire
2017 2nd Round Pick (COL)
Receiving from them in exchange
M. Boedker
J. Komulainen
Crappa made sure that he has nothing but good feelings twords hard working veteran Carl Soderberg who gave it his all night in and night out for the team. It is all ways hard to part ways with such a class act but at the end of the day this is a business and sometimes that means business decisions have to be made. Grigorenko (Grigs as he is known by the team) was also sadly a casualty to this side of the business. Crappa has very high hopes for him.
The Crazy depth of talented prospects and high quality assets that GM Travis has been able to piece together has been truly awe inspiring and I am truly happy that we do not share the same division. There is no way I would want to be facing off against them eight times a year for the next decade. Crappa truly wishes both Carl and Grigs the best of luck in the desert. The fact that Arizona is such a class act and operation lead by such a classy General manager made it easier to see them go. He is confident that they will find their time there enjoyable and looks forward to watching young grigs develop into a budding star in the league over the next few years.
Now onto what the fans here are looking forward to most.. We stand here proud to present to you for the first time as members of the iColorado Avalanche .....
Mikkel Boedker, and Joonas Komulainen!
The introduction was met with immediate thunderous applause. There seems to have been a real peak in interest in the team sense the deal was first broke on TSN trade alerts a meer 48 hours ago when it was reported that there was some serious interest in Boedker coming to the mile high city.
Some interesting things of note that we were able to whiteness while at the press conference covering it for the fans out there was just how quickly rookie phenom Austin Mathews and Boedker seemed to click. Just moments after being first formally introduced they could be heard laughing and joking loudly. If I had not known better i would have guesed that they were long lost buddys from back in their school days or something. (we will have to do some fact checking on this to see if they have indeed played together or met before this event took place)
Landeskog had this to say after the press conference..
"The ability to bring in an elite level winger who is young and just hitting the prime of his carrear is pretty rare. What is more impressive is that the organization somehow was able to pull this deal together without sacrificing much of the iNHL roster. I am really looking forward to seeing what we can do."
Mackinon couldn't seem to take the smile off his face when asked what this acquisition would mean to the franchise. "It's everything. This organization is serious about putting together a contender and one that can stay together for the next 5-7 seasons. As a young player there is nothing more you could ask but to be given the best shot at winning by the management and coaching staff."
Not to be forgotten was "Kool" as we quickly found members of the team referring to him by. Alex Tanguay was asked about how he thought this younger player could help the team. he responded with a sly smile.. saying "you know that penalty kill? yeah, that one that has us in the bottom 10 in the league killing them off? yeah.. look for those numbers to improve significantly. Kool may not be getting as much press and media attention as Boedker here today, but when we are hoisting the cup in the next few seasons he is going to be just as big of a reason for that as Boedker."
the general impression that we got from management and the players who were in attendance was that they were very excited for the oppertinuty to play with these new players and that they all to a man feel that this gives them a better shot at winning consistently and helping to keep the goals against down a little bit more then they have been able to accomplish so far in this early season. We will bring you more as things continue to develop, but this is defiantly something that you should be looking forward to as an iAvalanche fan. I for one can not wait to see how the next few weeks of this season go!
Side note: The iAvalanche have also completed another transaction today. They have claimed Forward and former Avalanche alumni Matt Hendricks off of waivers. To make room for this to be completed they have sent D man Duncan Siemens to the Rampage of the iAHL.
The anticipated line up appears to be something in the lines of this..
line 1 - Boedker Duchene Mackinon
line 2 - Landeskog Mathews Iginla
line 3- kool smith hodgeson
line 4 - Comue Hendricks Tanguay
