It's no secret that GM Rob Ranek is unhappy with the play of his Blackhawks. With a team highlighting names like Toews, Kane, Doughty, Teravainen, Keith, McDonagh, Oshie, and Lucic its hard not to be let down with late results from the Hawks. What Ranek can be happy about is that he has put together a group that terrifies opponents. They maybe struggling now, but as long as they can hold their playoff position and get in, the Blackhawks have shown time and time again they will be a force in the post season. Captain Toews leads the team with 71 pts, while Patrick Kane sits with 69 pts, and 18 PPG on the season.

The Minnesota Wild and their GM Danny Smith have for the most part stayed the course with their club. But last years power house Wild team is starting to show their age, and while they've been able to maintain a playoff position, its somewhat questionable that the Wild didn't bring in any reinforcements at the deadline. A core group of Pominville, Vanek, Parise, Suter and Koivu isnt getting any younger, and its going to be difficult for them to compete with the heavy weights in the West come the post season. Nino Niederreiter leads the team with 24 goals and 47 pts, tallying 5 PPG on the year.

Though the Rangers have been in a bit of a funk of late, you can't discredit GM Michael Best's efforts to give his club a great shot at being competitive down the stretch. Depth adds like Ehrhoff and Fiddler wil be crucial in the final 20 games, and adding a top 4 defenceman in Cam Fowler will never hurt your chances. The only concern with this Rangers club is the recurrence of losing during the latter half of the season. The Rangers have competed with the best of the best all season and looked strong going forward, but Halak has struggled at times, and the Rangers are finding ways to lose games rather than finding ways to win them. We expect New York to pull up their socks and be strong down the stretch, their club is too good to fall out of playoff contention in back to back years.

The Devils and Rangers must be sharing tips of late, because their trajectory has been nearly identical. The Devils seemed a lock to make the post season, but have struggled of late, losing 8 of their last 10. The biggest issue for New Jersey this year has been a lack of scoring, sitting 20th in the league at 2.70 GPG. All is not lost. GM Jon Bold made smart moves at the deadline to bring in Patrick Sharp and Antoine Vermette, two skilled forwards that will hopefully help pick up that scoring down the stretch. As long as New Jersey can maintain healthy for the remainder of the season, there is a very good chance they can slide into a wild card spot and play spoiler in the first round.

Without question, the Calgary Flames are my pick as biggest winner of the trade deadline. GM Joe Macdonald was able to bring in huge pieces at every position, without sacrificing any impact roster players for this season. With the acquisitons of Elias Lindholm, Tyson Barrie, and Carey Price, the Flames may have become the most dangerous team in the West. Calgary sacrificed numerous future assets to be able to be in this position, but when you have two superstars in the making in Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau, you can kind of throw caution to the wind. Gaudreau leads the team with 52 pts while Andrew Ladd leads the goal total with 23.

Detroit has managed to have another very solid year, and with early acquisitions of Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Johansen, did we really expect any less? After a slow star, Detroit began picking up W's and really hasn't looked back. The two new heroes lead the team in points with Geztlaf scoring 63 and Johansen scoring 55. The Wings sit in 8th for both Goals scored and Goals against, and Petr Mrazek is having another strong year, with 5 shutouts on the season. With the kind of depth that Detroit has this year down the middle, Its hard not to pick them to go far in the East. Bloody F#$$ing Nyqvist.

No surprise here, I think we all expected Tampa to be in this position coming on the end of the season. The Bolts are just too talented of a squad, and with depth acquisitions at the deadline they are bolstered up for whatever the league has to bring at them. The impressive thing is the Lightning hardly skipped a beat after losing Nikita Kucherov, and now look to put the pressure on the Big Bad Bruins and those High Flying Sens. Stamkos has kept to his word after his contract renewal, with 60 pts in 63 games and 29 goals on the season. The real question for Tampa will be after the post season, with Hedman and Palat needing extensions, and the potential of expansion threatening their dynamic goaltending duo.

Props to GM Dan Thompson who has managed to get this club oozing with offense. The Isles are fourth in scoring this year, with 3.42 goals per game, and show no signs of slowing down. The story of the off season was the acquisition of Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, by the Ottawa Senators. How did GM Rob Lablaw pull that off!! Well its paid off, as his team is comfortable at the top of the league fighting it out with the Bruins in just about every respect. Erik Karlsson has had a fantastic year and should be a lock for the Norris Trophy, with 24 goals and 78 pts, leading his team. Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn are a close 2nd and 3rd with 68 and 65 respectively. The biggest question mark for the Sens was not adding a top 6 forward at the deadline, while moving forward Kyle Okposo to the Kings. It was a pretty ballsy move Rob. A pretty ballsy move. We believe that with Robs aGM involvement in MTL, he was so sidetracked with trying to stop GM Matt Gough from acquiring long time Canadians favorite Mike Cammelleri, that time simply got away from him. At any rate, the Sens look to be just fine, and shy of some major injury, they could ( and probably should) compete for the Stanley Cup this season.

Acquiring the Trade Deadline prize isnt easy, but GM Beans was in the Duchene Sweepstakes from beginning to end, and came away with a coveted Center that probably half the league was in on at one point. The Bruins have had a incredible turn around from last year to present, and should probably start screening at a theater near you. The emergence of Pavel Zacha and outbreak of Brandon Saad has carried the Bruins offense all year long, and its very likely Saad could be taking home some hardware come June. The Bruins have had their hands full when it comes to Atlantic rivals Tampa, Detroit and Ottawa, but with a team so deep offensively its hard to see them faltering down the stretch. They lead the league in GPG with 4.15.. unbelievable.

The curse is broken! The Sharks are actually healthy again! I honestly never expected Big Joe or Marleau to make it to his point in the season without major injuries occurring. That being said, I give credit where credit is due. GM Isaac Reid, the Wizard, as done a fantastic job this year of ice management, and has allowed his club to run with an unorthodox system, shelling out shots from all 4 lines with relatively equal time. Only in a system like this do you see players like Da Costa, and Guimond up near the top of a teams points totals. Brent Burns has had a fantastic year, another Norris Candidate, with 67 pts in 67 games. Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture also deserve credit, scoring 67 and 63 respectively. Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na BatBJORN! I'll reiterate what I said at the beginning of the season. When Wayne Simmonds went down, I thought " The Flyers are going to struggle". Well. Since then Voracek has missed games, Streit has missed games, and most importantly Tukka Rask has missed games. It just doesn't damn well matter. The Flyers just keep on rolling. Let this sink for a second. Flyers backup and back backup have combined for 20 wins and 5 losses. Goalie Jack Campbell hasn't actually lost a game ( 6-0-0). I don't know how to explain any of it. Its a whole other level of wizardry. GM Bjorn Thelin has preached balance all year long, and his team is without question the definiton of it. I pity any team that plays the Flyers in this years playoffs, and my prediction is that they will go on to win the Stanley Cup. Claude Giroux leads the team with 67 pts and James Van Riemsdyk leads the goal total with 35. Not even in the top 10 of goals per game, but when you have the best GAA in the league, you don't need it.

This team may have the best blue line in the iNHL, and a forward group that will light any team up. If these Blues can get past the Flames then they are going to give whoever is the Final one hell of a ride. 2nd in GPG and 6th in GAA, its not hard to understand why they are where they are. Big Bad David Backes leads the team with 31 goals and 76 pts, while Russian superstar Tarasenko is right behind him with 30 goals on the season. I'll say my prayers for the team who gets to play St. Louis in the first round.

The Sharks are 6th in GPG and 4th in Goals against.

I said it last year for Tampa and I'll say it again this year. When you're the best, you're the best. St.Louis has made minimal moves, but a strong one bringing in Zadorov.
