I gotta say I don't know what GM Rob Ranek is thinking. Trading away a franchise player and near generational talent in Kane is baffling. This O'Reilly kid is the real deal and good for putting up 25+ goals a season but the departure of Patty Kane could put a hole into an already hurting Black Hawks offence. This has got to put some doubt in the dressing room. No one is safe. Hawks have not gotten off to a great start 6-5-0 in their first 11 game and they are tied for 25th for goals per game with 2 but they also have a defense that is only giving up 2 goals a game. The trade reeks of desperation but with only 11 games into the season the desperation is unwarranted. Kane was shipped off after playing only 5 games. No where near the amount of games to truly judge if a player should remain or be traded from the team. Quite possibly some conflicts going on behind closed doors? This may turn out to be a great deal for Chicago but for now Buffalo is the clear winner. If this trade pans out and the Hawks go on to make a deep playoff run you may see Ranek up for GM of the year. But if they get knocked out of the playoffs in the first round or miss completely the entire fan base is going to demand his resignation. Time will tell the impact this blockbuster will have.

As with most things out of Kypreos, I disagree.
I think Buffalo got the best player and (as much as I hate it as a division rival) are going to be contenders soon, but looking at results: Chicago is still in win mode after this deal, they got a younger star, a C is typically more valuable than a W, and they get cap flexibility. Having just escaped from cap hell, I put a huge premium on the last point.
(PS. I can't stand the real Kypreos and I disagree with the point here, but content like this is awesome and I wholly encourage it!)
