1) Free Agency starts on in-game date of July 1st. Any offers to Free Agents/pending Free Agents/Euro players made before that date will be invalid, removed and result in lost opportunity for the offering team to sign that player. The only players you are allowed to sign before July 1st is unsigned draftees which you own the rights to. You are also allowed to sign extensions with currently contracted players.
2) Preliminary offseason/preseason schedule:
3) For the first three Free Agency sims, all contract offers to non-ELC* UFAs/RFAs will be handled through the forums.
4) All ELC* contract offers, offers to unsigned draftees, players in Euro leagues and extensions to current contracted players will be handled in-game.
5) After the first three FA sims, all contract offers (UFAs, RFAs, unsigned draftees, Euro league players and current contracted players) will be in-game.
6) A GM looking to offer a contract to a player checks the requested salary/term in-game, which is the starting point for their offer
a) It is allowed to change the term of the contract by +/- 1 year
b) It is NOT allowed to offer a total contract value below what the player initially requests
c) It is NOT allowed to change the role a player asks for when offering a contract
d) The GM must ensure that the player is ready to accept the offered contract in-game before making an offer on the forum
7) Each forum contract offer must contain the following information
a) Contract type (Standard/2-way/)
b Term of the contract (# of years)
c) Salary for each contract year
d) Requested/offered role
e) for RFAs: ping to the GM holding the rights to the player (see rule 12 below)
Here is an example bid:
Title of the thread: Bobby Orr (player name)
Flyers offer UFA Bobby Orr a standard 3-year contract
Salary: 16/17 $10.0M, 17/18 $10.0M, 18/19 $10.0M
Requested role: Offensive Forward/Star Player
8) Player loyalty, team location and potential to be successful/winning the cup will NOT be considered as a factor by any players – this is considered too arbitrary
9) If a GM offers a contract to an UFA who has already received an offer from another team, the GM placing the new offer must increase the offered total salary by the following amount
a) ≥10% if the previous leading offer had a cap hit of $2.0mn or less
b) ≥5% if the previous leading offer had a cap hit of above $2mn
10) Any offer leading a team to go over the offseason salary cap will not be valid. With the projected $74.0m salary cap, the offseason salary cap is $81.4m.
11) A placed offer can be retracted if it has been the leading bid for <24 hours. If so, the timer goes back to when the previous bid was posted.
12) During the first three sims of Free Agency, UFA players will always accept the offer with the highest total contract value. After that, when offers are made in-game, the game will decide.
13) For RFAs, the team holding the rights to the player in question only needs to match the highest bid from another team in order to retain that player
14) The GM owning the right to a RFA must be pinged by any other GM in the contract offer post when offering a contract to that player. This is done by writing “@[GM username]” (in the example of myself, write @%bjernagris without the %).
15) For the first three sims, if an offer for a FA is the leading offer for 24 real-life hours, that offer will be accepted by the player and the contract will be signed. If an offer has not been the leading offer for 24 hours prior to a sim, that offer will be carried over to the next sim.
*You can check if a player is asking for an ELC contract in the contract offer screen. There is a line saying contract type, which should say "Entry Level - NHL" - see image below.
