Are you sure about this rule? The Winnipeg Jets just signed Logan Stanley on 12/6/16, during the season, to an ELC. He was their first rounder in the 2016 NHL draft. You're correct. It's not a rule in real life; he's saying that the game only allows us to sign prospects in the offseason (post-draft). Well, he actually said I can sign some of my prospects right now, but the ones who have a dollar amount after their rights expiration date only allow me to sign them in that June 23-August 31 window. I am fine with this if that is what the game restrictions are, but it just seems a little unclear right now is all.

Hi Matt, Thanks for bringing this up and good to see that you are on the ball already! The issue with players in Russia who's rights expire the same season that their contract is up has been brought up before, and we decided the following: If the player's contract expires the same year as their NHL player rights, and the player has not signed an extension with their Russian team at the date of the iNHL Entry Draft (around June 22nd each year), the player will be manually released from their Russian team, and the iNHL team holding the player rights will get the chance to sign that player in the file being released after the draft. However, if the player has signed an extension with their Russian team at that point, this signals their intention to continue playing in Russia, and the player will not be made available for their iNHL team to sign. I hope this clarifies things! Please reach out if you have further questions. Cheers Björn Thanks for the clarification regarding the Russian league players (KHL). I don't have the game open at the moment but there were several players whose rights expire in 2019 that I was looking at signing; I will have to look closer at them later. I looked around here but was unable to find anything regarding this topic.
I am trying to sign a few of my draft picks whose rights expire at the end of 2019 season (about 2 months from now in game time iirc). The game, however, will not allow me to sign my prospects who play in the KHL. I understand the real life issues between the two leagues, but am I just out of luck with these players at this point? If so, why even bother drafting players in the KHL at all? Is there some type of compensation I can receive or something? I have several players rights who I can't sign.
Also, I have several other players that the game says I can only sign between June 23, 2019-August 31, 2019. I have never heard of this before, is this something new in the latest CBA? These are players the former GM drafted (as are the ones in the KHL) and these are in Canadian Juniors. Their rights expire on June 30, 2019 which means I only have one week to sign them before those rights expire. Seems kind of odd to me.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
